Summer is here, and thousands of Greek-Americans have begun arriving in Greece for the holidays. They arrive as the country enters its most difficult season for extreme heat and wildfires. For us second- and third- generation Greek Americans, this time of year brings a critical question back into focus: What can the Greek diaspora do to help Greece confront its many environmental challenges?

Thanks to the facilitation of Chicago Greek American leaders, George Gemelas joined the Hellenic Club of Lake Forest High School, to speak on The AXIOS Project’s mission and articulate how young students can get involved.

AXIOS Project Co-Founder George Behrakis moderated a panel at the Hellenic Impact Investing Conference in Athens on social entrepreneurship and venture philanthropy, highlighting the role Greek and Greek-American funders can play in driving social impact, including on climate and environmental issues.

AXIOS Project Co-Founders George B. and George G. joined Grecian Echoes, the longstanding Greek-American radio show hosted by Ted Demetriades, to discuss the mission of The AXIOS Project missions and share how Greek-American leaders can get involved. 

AXIOS Project Co-Founder George Behrakis moderated a panel at the Circular Gaia Symposium in Athens, highlighting the role of AI and the circular economy in Greece’s green transition.

At the 9th Southeast Europe Energy Forum hosted by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, AXIOS Project Co-Founder George Behrakis joined leaders in energy, diplomacy, and innovation to explore how U.S.–Greece collaboration and the global Greek diaspora can accelerate decarbonization, strengthen regional energy security, and position Greece as a clean energy hub for Southeast Europe.

AXIOS Project Co-Founder George Gemelas keynoted and moderated a panel entitled “Youth in Energy” at the 2nd Greek Youth Diaspora Conference in Athens, convening young Greek leaders from 31 countries to shape the future of global Hellenism.
